Professional Bio
As Parks, Recreation and Tourism Superintendent, Thurman oversees the operations of eight community centers and five auxiliary centers, managing a diverse array of programs, including instructional, youth, senior, therapeutic recreation, and environmental services programs for the City of Chesapeake. He has also chaired the Summer Survival Training for the past 7 years, successfully broadening its reach and introducing it to several cities in Virginia.
Thurman was instrumental in expanding the Dr. Clarence V. Cuffee Community Center, where the addition of a pool exemplifies his commitment to excellence and innovation in the community. Holding a degree in Music Education, he is actively engaged in ongoing professional development to remain informed about industry trends and best practices. Known for his strong communication skills and meticulous attention to detail, he consistently aims to enhance the value of every initiative he undertakes.
