Certified Playground Safety Inspector Course & Exam

Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certifications are valid for three years—is it time to renew yours? Becoming a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) positions you as a leader and trusted resource in the public playground safety community. This nationally recognized course provides participants with the knowledge and tools needed to identify hazards, reduce liability risks, improve playground safety practices, and help protect children from injury.

Through a combination of classroom instruction, practical application, and an off-site park visit, participants will explore topics including hazard identification, safety surfacing materials, playground accessibility, safety management, audit procedures, and maintenance standards. The CPSI course also supports career growth by increasing professional credibility, expanding advancement opportunities, and aligning participants with NRPA’s long-standing reputation in playground safety leadership.

Resource materials developed specifically for this course are included in the registration fee and will be mailed to all paid registrants. A minimum of three weeks of study time is strongly recommended prior to the course and exam.

Please note:

• Total registration is limited to 80 participants.
• No walk-ins will be permitted for the course or exam.
• The certification exam will be administered on Day 3 of the course.
• Participants also have the option to complete the CPSI exam later through NRPA’s computer-based testing program. Please visit NRPA CPSI Information for details. If you register to take the exam during the course, refunds will not be provided for switching to computer-based testing later.
